Lashing Out

I recently heard of a story in the news that both shocked and disgusted me.

Seven years ago, a sixteen year old girl, who was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, secretly filmed her father beating her. Her father was angry with her for buying music off of the internet illegally. After catching her activities, the man promptly grabbed his belt, and lashed her violently, with the help of his wife.

The video has just been released by this very girl, Hillary Adams, on YouTube. The video shows her father brutally beating her while she pleads for him to stop. The video has millions of views, and has been all over the news lately. Hillary Adams had hoped to get this coverage in order to bring down her father.

Her father happens to be a Texas family law judge. His name is William Adams.

A man that rules on family related cases, many of which I am sure deal with domestic violence and abuse, is a violator of the very crimes he preaches and rules against. How could you possibly trust this man to use good judgment on any issues involving children and families?

It is shocking to see how little trust we should put into our justice system. If a man like this is allowed to make decisions to better our society, who else is out there? So many hypocrites could live out there, yet we put our safety and well being in their hands.

It seems difficult to ever trust a single person. One person can appear one way, while act a completely different way. This power, to me, is very unnerving. Should we be able to trust justice in the hands of a single person?

Similar issues are seen in The Crucible, as the whole town of Salem is flipped upside down by the accusations of one girl, who seems to have the justice system wrapped around her finger. How can she be trusted?

How can anybody be trusted?
